Joon Hurh

Born in 1998, Joon Hurh entered the Yehudi Menuhin School at the age of eleven, supported by a Music and Dance Scheme scholarship. After studying the violin with Akiko Ono and the viola with Boris Kucharsky and Andriy Viytovych, he completed his bachelor’s degree with Thomas Riebl at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and went on to a master’s degree in viola with German Tcakulov at the University of Music and Theatre Munich.

He has performed in Europe at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, the Gower Festival, Maiastra Chamber Music and the Salzburg Mozartwoche, and has worked with Nobuko Imai, Hartmut Rohde, Roland Glassl, Rainer Schmidt and Wilfried Strehle, among others. In 2017 he was awarded third prize at the Central International Music Competition in Malta.

A scholarship holder of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and, since 2022, of Villa Musica Rhineland-Palatinate, he has played for Live Music Now Salzburg and has been one of the musicians of Live Music Now Berlin since 2025.
